After five nights in Grand Cayman this December, I can confidently say it was one of those trips that resets you in the best possible way. Warm mid 80s every day, bright sun, no rain, and that clear Caribbean water that never quite looks real in photos.
We traveled as a group of six and stayed along Seven Mile Beach, balancing time at two neighboring resorts and filling our days with boating, beach time, great dinners, and a few honest lessons along the way.
Below is our five night Grand Cayman itinerary, what we loved, what I would skip, and what I would absolutely do again.
December in Grand Cayman: Arrival and First Impressions
We flew into Owen Roberts International Airport, which is small and easy to navigate. The drive to Seven Mile Beach is only about 10 to 15 minutes, so you are at your hotel quickly.
We arranged VIP meet and greet service upon arrival, and I would do it again without hesitation, especially during high season. When we walked into the airport, a woman was holding a sign with our name. While long lines formed behind us, we were escorted straight through arrivals, passport control, and customs. A porter handled our luggage, and within minutes we were on our way.
When you are traveling with a group, that seamless start sets the tone for the entire trip.

Day 1: Where We Stayed – Ritz and Westin on Seven Mile Beach
We stayed at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, while our kids stayed next door at The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa. Being able to experience both properties side by side was actually a highlight.
The Ritz feels refined and polished, with a calm energy throughout the property. We stayed on the Club Level, which made everything effortless. Breakfast each morning, light bites throughout the day, cocktails in the evening, and even simple dinners when we wanted something easy. It is one of those upgrades that quietly improves your entire stay.
The Westin felt slightly more relaxed and casual but still beautiful. The ability to walk back and forth between the two made the trip feel dynamic without ever leaving Seven Mile Beach.
Our first evening was simple. We had a quick dinner in the Club Lounge and walked down to the beach for sunset. The sky softened into pinks and golds, the water perfectly still. It was the kind of first night that immediately tells you that you chose the right place.

Day 2: Private Boat Day: Stingray City, Snorkeling, and Starfish Beach
The following day, we eased into the morning and then headed out for a private afternoon boat tour with Island Splash Watersports. If you do one excursion in Grand Cayman, make it this.
We left around 2:00 p.m. and returned around 6:30 p.m., which felt like the perfect window.
Stingray City was surreal. Standing in clear, shallow water while dozens of stingrays glide around you sounds intimidating, but it is peaceful and surprisingly gentle. The guides were knowledgeable and patient, making sure everyone felt comfortable.
We stopped to snorkel along the reef, where the water shifted from pale turquoise to deep blue. Then we visited Starfish Beach, where bright red starfish rest against white sand in calm, shallow water. It felt untouched.
This was easily one of the top experiences of the trip. I would book it again without hesitation.
That evening, we returned to the Ritz and had dinner at HB. After a full day on the water, staying on property felt perfect.

Day 3: Golf, Beach Time, and an Honest Review of the Bioluminescent Bay
One morning, the guys played golf at the Ritz course and loved it. Beautifully maintained and convenient since it is right on property.
My daughter-in-law, Erika and I stayed behind and enjoyed a slow beach morning. The beach service at the Ritz is exactly what you expect. Chairs perfectly positioned, cold towels offered, someone always nearby without hovering. The kind of service that makes you forget about time.

That evening we did a private bioluminescent bay tour from 6:00 to 7:45 p.m. I had high expectations for this experience. While it was interesting, it did not quite live up to what I imagined. If I were planning again, I would skip this and opt for another boat afternoon or a longer dinner somewhere special.

Dinner that night was at Grand Old House, and this is one I would absolutely not miss. Set in a historic waterfront home, it feels romantic and classic. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere was memorable without feeling formal. If you are visiting Grand Cayman, make a reservation here.

Day 4: Spa Afternoon and Dinner at Mykonos
Friday was slower.
We had massages at the Westin spa at 2:00 p.m., and it was the perfect mid-trip reset. The spa is understated and peaceful. Nothing flashy, just calm and beautifully executed. After our treatments, we all went back to our rooms and took naps. There is something about a beach vacation nap that feels indulgent in the best way.

That evening we had dinner reservations at Mykonos. The service was good, and the food was good, but it did not stand out. With so many strong dining options on the island, this would not be my first recommendation.

Day 5: Exploring George Town and a Night of Live Music
Saturday morning we ventured into George Town to walk around and shop. It is an easy outing and gives you a glimpse of local life beyond the resorts.
We had lunch at Rackam’s, a casual waterfront spot perfect for a relaxed midday meal. Nothing overly fancy, just good food and a great view.

Back at the Ritz, I spent time browsing the on property shops, which were well curated. Not the typical resort souvenirs, but thoughtfully selected pieces that felt elevated.
That evening, we ended the trip with a concert by Little Big Town. Warm air, live music, everyone relaxed and happy. It was such a fun way to close out the week.
Departure and Final Thoughts
On our final morning, we had breakfast once more in the Club Lounge before heading back to Owen Roberts International Airport. The airport is manageable, and the short drive makes departure easy, even when you would rather stay.
Grand Cayman is one of those destinations that feels effortless. The beaches are wide and clean. The water is clear beyond belief. Service is strong across the island, especially at the Ritz. It feels refined without feeling overwhelming.
If I were planning this trip again, I would prioritize:
• Staying on Seven Mile Beach
• Booking a private boat day
• Dining at Grand Old House
• Choosing Club Level at the Ritz
• Skipping the bioluminescent bay tour
Five nights felt just right. Long enough to unwind, short enough to leave wanting more.
For me, the best trips are the ones where everything feels easy. You can fill the day with adventure or spend hours doing absolutely nothing, and both feel right. Grand Cayman gave us that kind of ease.
