When you picture Jackson Hole, Wyoming, it’s easy to imagine powdery slopes and skiers carving their way down the mountain. While that’s absolutely part of the magic, Jackson Hole offers so much more than skiing. On our most recent trip, three nights and four days, we decided to skip the slopes altogether and instead lean fully into the atmosphere of this luxury ski town.
Our days were filled with shopping, dining, exploring, sleigh rides, and cozy evenings by the fire. But above all, what makes Jackson Hole so unforgettable is the wildlife. Spotting elk, moose, and even bald eagles around the valley was an experience that no luxury could ever top.

Deciding Where to Stay: In Town vs. Teton Village
One of the first choices you’ll make when planning a Jackson Hole getaway is whether to stay in town or in Teton Village, where the ski resort is located.
- In Town Options
- The Cloudveil – A Marriott Autograph Collection property located right on Town Square. Steps from Jackson Town Square and just a 9-minute walk from the Jackson Hole and Greater Yellowstone Visitor Center. This ski hotel is also only 0.7 miles from Snow King Resort and 1 mile from the National Elk Refuge.
- Hotel Jackson – A contemporary Western luxury boutique hotel located right on Jackson Hole Square.
- Rusty Parrot Lodge – Just a 5-minute walk from downtown Jackson and home to a relaxing spa.
- Teton Village Options
- Four Seasons Jackson Hole – Perfect for those prioritizing ski-in, ski-out convenience with all the luxury amenities you’d expect from Four Seasons.
Since our trip wasn’t about skiing, we chose to stay in town, right in the middle of the energy and charm. We booked The Cloudveil using Marriott Bonvoy points, and upon arrival, we were upgraded to a one-bedroom suite. It ended up being the ideal choice for this type of trip.
The Cloudveil: Western Elegance Meets Modern Luxury
The Cloudveil stood out not just because it’s part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection (meaning we could use points) but because of its prime location on Town Square. Staying here meant we were footsteps from Jackson’s famous elk antler arches, boutiques, restaurants, and the skating rink.
First Impressions
Walking through the doors, you immediately feel like you’ve stepped into a modern mountain lodge. A towering stone fireplace anchors the lobby, with oversized chairs and couches that invite you to sit and stay awhile. The décor nods to the West with touches of leather, wood, antlers, and cowboy artwork, yet it’s done in a refined way that feels both upscale and authentic.
The staff set the tone right away with big smiles and a warm welcome. That combination of genuine service and stylish design made us feel at home instantly.

Our Suite
Thanks to Marriott Bonvoy, we were upgraded to a one-bedroom suite with a balcony and it was spectacular. The suite included a spacious living room, a separate bedroom, fireplace, and a balcony. Sitting outside, wrapped in a blanket by the fire, looking over the town square and mountains, was one of those moments that felt purely Jackson Hole.

Dining at The Cloudveil
The Cloudveil offers two distinct dining experiences:
- The Bistro – A French-American restaurant open daily from 7 am to 11 pm. Dishes are comforting and elevated.
- The Rooftop – Open from mid-May through mid-October, this seasonal gem offers sweeping views of the surrounding valley. Though closed during our winter stay, it’s on our list for a summer return.
Even if you don’t plan a full meal, the lobby bar is the perfect place to unwind with a cocktail beside the grand fireplace.
Amenities
The Cloudveil is small enough to feel boutique but packed with thoughtful amenities:
- Outdoor heated pool and hot tub with mountain views.
- 24/7 fitness center.
- Hotel car service for complimentary rides within 2 miles of town.
- Complimentary shuttle running throughout the day to Teton Village.
Ski-Friendly Perks
While we didn’t ski, it’s clear The Cloudveil is built with skiers in mind:
- Black Tie Ski Rentals sets you up right in the lobby, no need to wait in crowded shops.
- Equipment is delivered directly to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.
- On-site ski valet stores your gear at the resort during your stay.
Tip: Pre-order your lift tickets as soon as you can. They sell out fast.
Compared to Other Hotels
We also visited Hotel Jackson and the Four Seasons during our trip. Hotel Jackson is sleek and modern, while the Four Seasons is slope-side perfection for those skiing at Teton Village. But for this trip, focused on atmosphere, dining, and exploring town, The Cloudveil was the clear winner.
Why We Loved It
The Cloudveil embodies Western charm with modern polish. It feels luxurious without being over the top, comfortable without being rustic. For anyone who wants to experience Jackson Hole beyond the slopes, this hotel is the perfect base.
What to Do in Jackson Hole (No Skis Required)
Jackson Hole is packed with activities even if you never set foot on the mountain. Here are some highlights from our itinerary:
- Private Vintage Sleigh Ride – This was the most magical part of our trip. Book through woodboattours.com for a cozy, intimate experience that feels straight out of a winter postcard.

- Ice Skating on Town Square – Free if you show your Cloudveil room key. Skating under twinkling lights with the elk antler arches in the background is pure charm.
- Wildlife Spotting – From herds of elk in the National Elk Refuge to moose wandering near the Snake River, wildlife here is jaw-dropping. Seeing it up close is what makes Jackson Hole unlike anywhere else.

- Dog Sled Tour – We booked with Jackson Hole Iditarod Sled Dog Tours (307-733-7388). The experience was incredible, and the team running it was wonderful.
- Massage & Spa – We had massages during our stay, though I’d recommend researching your spa choice carefully.
- Cloudveil recommends these spas:
- Shopping – Jackson’s boutiques and art galleries are a treat to explore. You’ll find everything from luxury Western wear to unique home décor.
- Million Dollar Cowboy Bar – No trip to Jackson is complete without a visit to this iconic bar, famous for its saddle barstools and Western music.

Dining Highlights
Jackson Hole’s dining scene punches far above its size. Some of our favorites included:
- Snake River Grill – Our top dinner recommendation. Cozy, romantic, and consistently rated one of Jackson’s best. Reservations are a must.
- White Buffalo Club – Don’t miss the filet on the block, one of their signature dishes.
- Nora’s Fish Creek Inn – Located in Wilson near Teton Village, this breakfast spot is legendary. Perfect way to start a day of exploring.
- Piste Mountain Bistro – Ride the Bridger Gondola ($20 lift ticket) for jaw-dropping views of the entire valley. The food is great, but the scenery is unforgettable.
- Million Dollar Cowboy Bar – Beyond the drinks, the atmosphere here makes it a must-visit.

Travel Logistics & Tips
- Getting There: Jackson Hole Airport (JAC) is just 15 minutes from town and offers one of the most scenic landings in the U.S. Rental cars are available at the airport.
- Getting Around: Rent a car. While there are shuttles and hotel cars, you’ll want the flexibility to explore Grand Teton National Park, Wilson, and beyond.
- Best Time to Visit:
- Winter (December–March) for skiing and snowy charm.
- Summer (June–August) for hiking, rafting, and outdoor adventure.
- Fall (September–October) for foliage and fewer crowds.
- Booking Tips: Reserve restaurants and excursions early, especially in peak season.
Final Thoughts
Jackson Hole is often thought of as a skier’s paradise, but this trip proved that it’s also a luxury traveler’s dream—even without hitting the slopes. Staying at The Cloudveil gave us the perfect blend of atmosphere, convenience, and indulgence. With world-class dining, cozy adventures, and Western character at every turn, Jackson Hole is a destination we’ll return to again and again.
