Expectations vs. Experience: A Surprising All-Inclusive Getaway in Montego Bay
When I first heard we’d be heading to an all-inclusive luxury resort in Jamaica, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But when my husband’s company offered a fully paid-for trip, we figured—why not soak up a little Caribbean sun? I packed my bags thinking it’d just be a nice change of scenery… but honestly, I was blown away by the heart, warmth, and top-notch service at Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall and Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall in Montego Bay, Jamaica. If you’re looking for a real Hyatt Zilara and Ziva Rose Hall review, here’s everything you need to know.
Arrival Must: Club Mobay Jamaica
Our trip started off on the right foot thanks to Club Mobay Jamaica, and I truly cannot recommend it enough. From the moment we stepped off the plane at Sangster International Airport (MBJ), we were greeted by a friendly escort holding a sign with our name.
We breezed past the long immigration and customs lines, and before we knew it, we were sipping cocktails and snacking in the arrival lounge—complete with Wi-Fi and air conditioning. For anyone flying into Montego Bay, this is a no-brainer add-on.
Zilara vs. Ziva: Which Side Should You Book?
This all-inclusive resort in Montego Bay is actually made up of two properties:
- Hyatt Zilara (adults-only) Buildings 14 & 15 (Best buildings for ocean-front rooms!)
- Hyatt Ziva (family-friendly) Buildings 36 & 23
We stayed at Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall Jamaica, and our oceanfront one-bedroom suite was steps from the pool, beach, and food—ideal. While some parts of the resort (especially the hallways) felt a little worn, the lush grounds, sprawling pools, and well-kept gardens more than made up for it.

Our Room & Butler Service
We booked an ocean front one-bedroom butler suite in Ziva. Here’s where the experience really stood out: the butler service. While the rooms didn’t scream luxury, having a Jamaica all-inclusive with butler service made a massive difference. Our butlers—Warren, Rayan, and Kevin—were available daily from 7AM to 10PM via text.
They handled dinner reservations, brought drinks and snacks to our room, and always showed up with a warm smile and helpful attitude. It is important to note that some rooms will not have butler service.
Bonus: 24-hour room service is available, and we took full advantage of that each morning for slow, ocean-view breakfasts in bed. Bliss.

Spa, Dining, & Activities
There are two spas on property, but trust me—only one is worth visiting. The Zilara spa, located right on the beach, felt peaceful and island-chic. The Ziva spa, by contrast, was tucked inside the hotel and lacked that relaxed, tropical vibe you want on vacation.
While at the spa I found my staff highlight for the trip! Antoinette, our massage lady, pictured below.

Dining Highlights:
- Barefoot Jerkz – Jamaican BBQ with ocean views. Casual and unforgettable.
- Fuzion (Asian Grill) – Our favorite meal of the trip.
- Di Roza (Italian) – Surprisingly good!
- Stirz Piano Bar – Fun cocktails and even better company (Rooney is unforgettable).
- Choice Z – Meh. Skippable.
- Room service – Always a win for slow mornings.
If you’re searching for Montego Bay resort tips: make dinner reservations early and go to Fuzion twice if you can.
On-Property Activities
- Snorkeling
- Adults Only Pool
- Boogie Boarding
- Kayak Rentals
- Music & Entertainment: International artists, performing nightly; dance, music, & theatrical shows!
Pool and Beach at Hyatt Ziva & Zilara Rose Hall
Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall offers two distinct pool areas: a lively activities pool featuring a swim-up bar and a more tranquil relaxation pool. For those seeking added comfort, cabanas are available for rent, providing a shaded retreat by the water. At Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall, guests can enjoy a secluded adults-only pool, complete with the IslandZ Bar offering swim-up seating.

The resort also boasts over 670 feet of Caribbean beachfront, where lounge chairs and beach butler service enhance the seaside experience.

Excursion Highlight: Rafting Martha Brae Jamaica
This was an absolute highlight. We brought a Bluetooth speaker and floated down the Martha Brae River surrounded by nothing but lush greenery and calming waters. It felt like a postcard—and if you’re planning a couples getaway in Jamaica, this one’s a must.

The Weather & What to Know Before You Go
We traveled during the second week of December, and honestly, the weather wasn’t ideal. It was chilly and windy, and the pool wasn’t calling my name like it normally would. I definitely recommend visiting during a warmer month if you’re hoping for endless sun and swim days.
Safety & Off-Resort Adventures
One thing we heard repeatedly: “Don’t leave the resort.” While that advice might make some nervous, I also believe in experiencing the real culture of wherever I go. We hired a driver and made our way into downtown Montego Bay.
Let’s just say: I’m glad we did it—but I wouldn’t do it again during rush hour. The traffic was intense, and the downtown area was more chaotic than charming. If you go, go with a reputable driver, and plan your timing carefully.
Final Thoughts: The Heart of Jamaica
What truly stood out to me? The people. Every team member greeted us by placing their hand over their heart—a beautiful, genuine gesture that made us feel so welcome.
I think you can stay here at a decent rate. I would recommend this hotel for an affordable 5-star all-inclusive resort. While the accommodations didn’t meet my personal expectations of luxury, the incredible service helped balance things out.
I’d recommend this all-inclusive, Montego Bay resort primarily for couples, but it would also be a great spot for a girls’ trip or a fun guys’ getaway. If you’re looking for an easy, warm-weather escape with solid food, good energy, and standout hospitality, this place is worth considering.
