Portofino is one of those rare destinations that lives up to its reputation and somehow still exceeds expectations. Nestled along the Italian Riviera, this tiny fishing village feels impossibly elegant, intimate, and romantic. Everything about Portofino feels intentional, from the pastel colored buildings that curve around the harbor to the way luxury and history coexist so effortlessly. This was my favorite port on The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection Cruise and we were in port for 6 hours!
Despite its small size, Portofino offers a full day of unforgettable experiences. From coastal walks and historic viewpoints to refined dining and world famous fashion houses, a day here feels rich, indulgent, and beautifully paced. This is how we spent a perfect day in Portofino, Italy.
First Impressions of Portofino
Portofino immediately captivates you upon arrival. The harbor is framed by softly painted buildings in shades of peach, blush, yellow, and terracotta, creating a postcard perfect setting that feels surreal. Luxury yachts line the water, cafés spill out onto the piazzetta, and the atmosphere feels both lively and serene at the same time. As we explored the harbor, we passed Ristorante Puny, one of the most sought after restaurants in Portofino and notoriously difficult to secure reservations for. I had booked a table here ahead of our trip, knowing how popular it is.
Portofino is small, but that is part of its magic. It encourages you to slow down, walk everywhere, and truly experience the destination rather than rush through it. Later, you will see that I ultimately canceled our reservation at Ristorante Puny in favor of dining at the Dior restaurant in Paraggi. The idea of eating directly on the beach felt too special to pass up.

Discovering Portofino’s Iconic Sights and Dior
While strolling through the heart of Portofino, we took time to soak in the village’s iconic sights, from the pastel lined harbor to the narrow streets filled with luxury boutiques and coastal charm. One stop that stood out was the Dior boutique, where shopping feels less like retail and more like an experience. The space blends seamlessly into the character of Portofino, elegant yet understated, reflecting the effortless sophistication of the Italian Riviera. Exploring the sights alongside iconic fashion moments like Dior is part of what makes Portofino feel so thoughtfully curated and unforgettable.

During our conversation, I asked the Dior sales associate about dining at Dior, and she immediately shared that if you want to shop at Dior, Paraggi is the place to go. She explained that the Paraggi location feels more exclusive than Portofino and offers pieces you cannot find anywhere else. Without hesitation, she made a call and secured lunch reservations for us. We took her advice and caught a taxi from Portofino to Paraggi, which made the trip effortless. I would recommend taking a taxi over and walking back to fully enjoy the scenery. Just thirty minutes later, we were on our way to lunch.
Lunch at Bagni Fiore, the Dior Beach Club in Paraggi
Our destination was Bagni Fiore, the iconic Dior Beach Club in Paraggi. Paraggi is a small, picturesque cove located just outside Portofino, known for its emerald green water and relaxed, upscale atmosphere.
Bagni Fiore is elegant yet inviting, with a setting that feels exclusive without being pretentious. Sitting seaside with crystal clear water just steps away, lunch here felt indulgent and unhurried.

The food was exceptional, the atmosphere was refined and relaxed, and the service was attentive and warm. Everything about the experience felt thoughtfully curated, from the presentation of the dishes to the pace of the meal. It is the kind of lunch you wish would never end.
Dining at Bagni Fiore is not just about the food. It is about the experience, the setting, and the feeling of being fully immersed in the Italian Riviera lifestyle.

Exploring Paraggi and Shopping at Dior After Lunch
After lunch, we took time to walk around the quaint town of Paraggi. It is small and peaceful, with a charm that feels different from Portofino but equally special. The slower pace makes it the perfect complement to the more vibrant harbor scene back in Portofino.

We stopped for a bit of shopping at Dior before beginning our walk back. Rather than returning by boat or car, we chose one of the most scenic options available.

The Walk of Kisses Trail from Paraggi to Portofino
The trail connecting Paraggi to Portofino is often referred to as the Walk of Kisses. This easy coastal walk follows a scenic path above the sea, offering stunning views of the Tigullio Gulf, hidden coves, and lush Mediterranean vegetation.
The walk is peaceful and incredibly scenic, making it ideal for families, couples, and anyone who wants to experience the coastline at a slower pace. It is well maintained and easy to navigate, with frequent viewpoints that make you want to stop and take photos.
This trail alone is worth carving out time for during a visit to Portofino. It connects the two villages in a way that feels intimate and romantic, allowing you to truly appreciate the natural beauty of the Italian Riviera.

Visiting Castello Brown
Once back in Portofino, we continued exploring by heading up to Castello Brown. This historic fortress sits high above the harbor and offers some of the best panoramic views in the area.
The walk up is a bit of a climb, but it is absolutely worth it. From the top, you can see the entire harbor, the pastel buildings below, and the endless stretch of coastline beyond. It provides a completely different perspective of Portofino and highlights just how dramatic the setting truly is.
Castello Brown is rich in history and offers a peaceful contrast to the lively harbor below. It is a must visit for anyone who enjoys scenic viewpoints and historic sites.

The Portofino Lighthouse and Al Faro di Portofino
From Castello Brown, we continued on to Faro, the historic Portofino Lighthouse. The walk to the lighthouse is scenic and calming, surrounded by greenery and coastal views.
The lighthouse itself is iconic, but what truly makes this stop special is Al Faro, a charming cliffside bar nearby. We ended up stopping here for drinks and food, soaking in the breathtaking views while enjoying a well deserved break.
Al Faro di Portofino is the perfect place to slow down and take in the beauty of Portofino. Whether you stop for a drink, a light bite, or simply to enjoy the view, it is an unforgettable setting.

What to Wear and Practical Tips
We did a lot of walking throughout the day, so comfortable shoes are essential. Flats or stylish walking sandals are ideal, especially if you plan to walk the Paraggi trail, visit Castello Brown, and continue on to the lighthouse.
Portofino may be small, but exploring it fully means embracing its hills, trails, and scenic paths. Take your time and allow space in your schedule to enjoy each stop without rushing.
