When planning a trip to a city like Rome, choosing the right hotel matters more than almost anything else, tome. Rome is layered with history, culture, food, and energy, and where you stay sets the tone for the entire experience. I take hotel research seriously.. I want exceptional service, a beautiful and memorable atmosphere, and a location that allows me to step outside and immediately feel immersed in the destination.
My process usually starts with Forbes Travel Guide, since their standards align closely with what I value most. From there, I do my own deep dive by reading reviews, comparing locations, and paying attention to the overall feel of the property. One detail I always look for is outdoor space. Balconies matter to me. If it is my first time visiting a city, I want to wake up, open the doors, and feel connected to where I am. I also prioritize walkability. I want to be able to leave the hotel and reach major sites, great restaurants, and charming streets without needing a car.
When researching Rome, several Forbes 5 Star hotels consistently appear at the top of the list. These include Baglioni Hotel Regina, Bulgari Hotel Roma, Hassler Roma, Hotel Eden, Orient Express La Minerva, and of course, the St. Regis Hotel Rome.
After weighing all of my options, the St. Regis stood out for several reasons. The reviews were outstanding, the location was ideal, and the overall reputation for service was exactly what I look for in a luxury hotel. I only needed a few more nights to reach Platinum status, which means room upgrades, club access (excluding The Ritz-Carlton), and additional benefits. While those perks were exciting, what truly mattered to me was how the hotel delivered on service and hospitality from start to finish.
Arrival and First Impressions
From the moment we arrived, the experience felt special. As our car pulled up, Andrea opened the door and greeted us with such warmth and professionalism that it immediately made us feel welcome. This was not rushed or transactional. It felt genuine. He guided us inside for check-in, explained the process clearly, and ensured everything felt seamless.
We arrived around noon, fully prepared to store our luggage and begin exploring the city. Instead, we were told that our room was already ready, and even better, we were able to upgrade. That moment alone set the tone for the entire stay. Early check-in and upgrades are not guaranteed, even at luxury hotels, so this felt like a thoughtful and generous start.
A lovely team member escorted us to our room, took time to explain how everything worked, and made sure we felt comfortable. Shortly after, we were surprised with welcome drinks, snacks, and thoughtful his and hers gifts. These details may seem small, but they create an emotional connection to the stay. Nothing felt forced or overly scripted. The service felt intuitive, personal, and anticipatory.

Design and Atmosphere
The St. Regis Hotel Rome is known for its opulent interiors and rich history, and walking inside truly feels like stepping into another era. The design blends grand Roman architecture with refined modern touches, creating a space that feels timeless rather than dated.
It feels like being inside a Renaissance palazzo that has been carefully updated for today’s traveler. The ceilings are high, the details are intricate, and the atmosphere is undeniably elegant. At the same time, it never feels stuffy or unapproachable. There is a warmth to the space that makes you want to linger.
This is one of those hotels where you immediately feel that you are somewhere special. Luxurious, glamorous, and refined, yet still welcoming and comfortable.

The Room Experience
Our room was spacious, beautifully designed, and thoughtfully laid out. High ceilings, rich fabrics, and plush finishes made it feel both grand and relaxing. After long days walking through Rome, it was the perfect place to unwind.
Everything felt intentional. From the bedding to the lighting to the quietness of the room, it was clear that comfort was just as important as aesthetics. This is the kind of room where you can truly rest and recharge, which is essential when traveling in a city as vibrant as Rome.

Dining and Bars
The dining experiences at the St. Regis are truly exceptional. We had breakfast each morning at Lumen, and it quickly became one of the highlights of our stay.
Lumen offers what I can confidently say is the most luxurious breakfast buffet I have ever experienced. The selection is beautiful, abundant, and thoughtfully curated. One of the most unique features is the fresh juice experience. Guests can choose their organic fruits and vegetables, and the team juices them fresh right in front of you. It feels elevated, healthy, and indulgent all at the same time.
The restaurant itself is stunning, with cozy booths, elegant furnishings, and a calm, inviting atmosphere. Breakfast here never felt rushed. It felt like a moment to slow down and truly enjoy the start of the day.

The Lumen Garden is another standout. This hidden bar feels like a secret oasis tucked away within the hotel. With large trees, a moody ambiance, and stylish seating, it is the perfect place for evening cocktails or light bites. It feels intimate, chic, and effortlessly elegant.

Amenities and Wellness
The St. Regis Hotel Rome does not have a pool, but this never felt like a downside. Rome is not a destination where I want to spend my time lounging poolside. There is too much history, culture, and beauty to explore.
The hotel does offer a well-equipped fitness center, which is perfect for maintaining a routine while traveling. There is also a spa, ideal for booking a massage after long days of walking through the city. Having this option available adds another layer of comfort and relaxation to the stay.
One standout amenity at the St. Regis Hotel Rome is the house car, which is available to take guests anywhere within Central Rome. This is an incredible perk and makes navigating the city even easier, especially after a long day of sightseeing or dining out.

Concierge and Service
The concierge team at the St. Regis Hotel Rome deserves special recognition. I began working with them eight months before our trip, and their level of care and attention never wavered.
Madrid went above and beyond with every request. From restaurant recommendations to securing reservations, planning excursions, and adjusting our itinerary multiple times, everything was handled with patience and expertise. The communication was clear, thoughtful, and proactive, which made planning the trip far less stressful.
One of my personal requests when staying at a luxury hotel is having fresh flowers in the room, and the St. Regis delivered. The flowers were beautiful, and combined with the welcome gifts that Daniele brought, snacks, and drinks, it created a sense of being genuinely cared for.

The service throughout our stay felt anticipatory rather than reactive. We rarely had to ask for anything, because it was already taken care of. This level of hospitality is what separates a good hotel from a truly exceptional one.
Final Thoughts
The St. Regis Hotel Rome is not just a place to stay. It is an experience defined by thoughtful service, elegant design, and a deep respect for the guest experience. Every interaction felt intentional, and every detail contributed to a stay that felt both luxurious and personal.
If you are visiting Rome and want a hotel that combines timeless beauty, world-class service, and an unbeatable location, the St. Regis Hotel Rome stands out in every way. For me, it is without question my top hotel of 2025, and a property I would return to again and again.
