Virgin Gorda is one of the main islands in the British Virgin Islands and is known for its privacy, luxury villas, yachts, and untouched natural beauty. For travelers looking for a quiet Caribbean escape filled with secluded beaches and exclusive resorts, Virgin Gorda can feel like paradise. For me, however, it was one of the least exciting ports on our Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection itinerary.
This was Day 2 of our cruise, and while I am glad we visited, it is not a destination I would personally choose for a longer vacation.
What Virgin Gorda Is Known For
Virgin Gorda attracts travelers seeking privacy, relaxation, and a slower pace. The island is home to several luxury hotel properties, including Rosewood Little Dix Bay and Oil Nut Bay, both known for their beautiful settings and exclusive atmosphere.
If your ideal vacation includes boutique shopping, a vibrant restaurant scene, nightlife, and plenty of activities, Virgin Gorda may feel a bit limited. I tend to prefer destinations with more action and a wider variety of things to do. Outside of The Baths, I found there was not much that interested me personally.
That said, if your goal is to unplug, enjoy nature, and experience one of the Caribbean’s most peaceful luxury destinations, Virgin Gorda delivers exactly that.

The Baths: Virgin Gorda’s Must-See Attraction
Even though Virgin Gorda was not my favorite port, I absolutely recommend visiting The Baths if your cruise ship stops here.
The Baths are one of the most famous natural attractions in the Caribbean, and for good reason. Massive granite boulders create a maze of hidden passageways, sea pools, caves, and beaches unlike anything else in the region.
Arriving at The Baths feels like stepping into a destination designed by nature itself. Crystal-clear water surrounds enormous rock formations that rise from powder-soft white sand. Sunlight filters through openings in the boulders, illuminating turquoise pools and creating an atmosphere that feels more like a luxury spa than a public beach.
As you walk through the narrow stone corridors, you’ll discover secluded grottos, tidal pools, and breathtaking viewpoints. Many visitors continue on to Devil’s Bay, where calm waters make for excellent swimming and snorkeling.
The Baths isn’t a beach. It’s what happens when nature creates its own five-star experience.

Skip the Cruise Line Excursion
One of my biggest tips for visiting The Baths is to skip the cruise line excursion and arrange transportation yourself.
The port is only about a 5 to 10-minute taxi ride from The Baths, making it incredibly easy to visit independently.
During our visit:
- Entrance to The Baths was only $3 per adult
- Children’s admission was $2
- A taxi cost approximately $10 roundtrip
Meanwhile, the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection excursion was priced at $40 per person.
By taking a local taxi, you can save money and avoid waiting for a large group to move through the attraction together. You can explore at your own pace and return when you’re ready.
How Long Do You Need at The Baths?
Most visitors can comfortably experience The Baths in about one to three hours, depending on how much time they spend swimming, taking photos, and exploring the various rock formations.
If you simply want to walk through the caves and enjoy the scenery, the visit can be fairly quick. If you plan to relax at Devil’s Bay or spend time snorkeling, you may want to stay longer.

Is Virgin Gorda Worth Visiting?
For me, The Baths were the highlight and the primary reason to visit Virgin Gorda. They are stunning, unique, and absolutely worth seeing at least once.
However, beyond The Baths, I did not find enough activities to make me want to return for an extended stay. Travelers who love luxury resorts, privacy, yachting, and nature will likely have a very different opinion and may find Virgin Gorda to be the perfect Caribbean retreat.
If your Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection itinerary includes Virgin Gorda, my recommendation is simple: visit The Baths, take a local taxi instead of the ship excursion, enjoy one of the Caribbean’s most remarkable natural wonders, and then head back to the yacht knowing you’ve experienced the island’s most iconic attraction.
